It’s been a while since I’ve had a pair of gray jeans in my wardrobe. I had a pair a long time ago that I loved and wore often. I’ve been wanting to get an updated pair for some time now, and I finally found the perfect pair of gray jeans!

What Colors go with Gray Jeans?
Gray jeans are a great neutral to add to your denim collection. The color literally goes with everything, but I don’t think everyone realizes that at first. It’s not as obvious as other neutrals. With blue denim, we’re taught that it pretty much goes with everything, but gray jeans don’t have that same visual conditioning. As a result, people second-guess themselves—even though gray is just as neutral.
Another reason gray tends to stump people is because neutrals can be confusing. Fashion “rules” have made us believe things like black and brown don’t go together, or black and navy don’t work together. The same goes for gray. I think a lot of us revert back to these outdated fashion rules and overthink the color possibilities that go with gray.
The truth is, fashion rules are out of style. When you have a neutral color like gray, it’s going to pair with almost anything. The best thing you can do when you’re questioning whether or not a color pairing will work is to just try it on. I bet that 9 times out of 10, you’re going to like the pairing—and if you don’t, then don’t wear it.
Another thing to think about when pairing any color combination is choosing the right accessories. Accessories are usually the key pieces that pull a look together and make it feel intentional. I like to keep my accessories in neutral colors (tan, black, or brown).

Outfit Ideas of How to Wear Gray Jeans in Early Spring
*For sizing reference, I’m 5’1 and about 115 lbs. I typically wear a small or xsmall in tops, a 25/0 petite length in bottoms, and a size 7.5 shoes.
Outfit 1: Pink + Gray
This pink is such a fun color, and I love how it really pops against the gray jeans. I paired it with neutral booties and a tan belt. The accessories aren’t the exact same color, but they’re in the same color family, so they coordinate without feeling overly matchy-matchy.

Outfit 2: Yellow + Gray
Yellow is another fun, bright color to pair with gray jeans. I love wearing cheerful sweaters in early spring as a way to bring a little spring style into my wardrobe while still staying warm. I completed the look with my gray flats, which I thought paired well with the golden yellow color.

Outfit 3: Light Blue + White + Gray
I’m seeing a lot of light blues this spring, and I thought this top would pair perfectly with my gray jeans. I chose a white blazer because I love how bright it is, but for the accessories, I went with black. I tried tan with this outfit, but felt that black made the look feel extra crisp.

Outfit 4: Navy + Gray
Navy and gray are a great color pairing. It’s similar to navy and black, but gray is much softer than black, which makes the combination feel a little less intimidating. For shoes, I went with tan loafers. A light neutral like tan or taupe does a great job of pulling this look together.

Outfit 5: Black and White Stripes + Chambray + Gray
I love the combination of stripes with chambray. Black-and-white stripes are a classic pattern, and they pair perfectly with gray jeans. The light denim color of the shirt gives the outfit a laid-back, casual vibe. I accessorized with a baseball cap and sneakers.

Outfit 6: Chocolate brown + Gray
This is one of the more unexpected color pairings with gray jeans. I think most people would assume brown and gray don’t go together, but these two neutrals actually pair really nicely. I went with a tan belt and chocolate brown sneakers to complete the look.

Outfit 7: Burgundy stripes + Gray
Anything with red in it is going to pair great with gray jeans—red, burgundy, maroon, purple, or plum. I went with this burgundy striped combination because I think it’s such a cute top for this time of year, and I love the color. I chose black shoes, but you could easily pair this look with a lighter shade of shoes as well.

Outfit 8: Tan + Gray
For the last look, I paired a tan sweater with gray jeans. I love wearing neutrals! They’re always a safe bet and make me feel confident. For accessories, I added black with a black cap-toe flat and a black belt.
