Every August at the beginning of the school year, I like to put together a teacher capsule wardrobe. I usually pick styles that will work in the warmer months and transition into the fall. However, I’m often asked to create a winter teacher capsule. Rather than putting together a completely new capsule, I want to show you how you can easily use a few add-on pieces to seamlessly winterize the outfits I shared in this year’s teacher capsule wardrobe.

How to Winterize Your Fall Teacher Capsule Wardrobe

One of the best things about a well-thought-out teacher capsule wardrobe is its versatility. With just a few strategic swaps and layering techniques, you can seamlessly transition your fall outfits into winter while staying warm and stylish. Here are the key pieces to add to your fall capsule to make it winter-friendly:
1. Long-Sleeve Tops
Swap out your short-sleeve and sleeveless tops for long-sleeve versions in similar colors and styles. This simple swap adds warmth without changing the overall look of your outfits.
2. Sweaters
Chunky knits, lightweight cashmere, or classic crewneck sweaters are perfect for layering. Pair them over blouses or under blazers to create cozy and professional winter looks.
3. Long-Sleeve Dresses
Instead of packing away your dresses, opt for long-sleeve versions or layer sleeveless styles with fitted cardigans or sweaters. This allows you to continue wearing your favorite fall dresses in colder temperatures.
4. Fleece-Lined Tights
A game-changer for winter! Wear fleece-lined tights under dresses and skirts to stay warm while maintaining a polished and professional look.
5. Boots and Booties
Swap out flats or loafers for ankle booties or knee-high boots. Not only do they provide extra warmth, but they also add a stylish winter touch to your outfits.
6. Full-Length Jeans
Replace cropped jeans with full-length styles to keep your legs warm. Straight-leg, slim, or bootcut jeans work well with boots and help create a seamless cold-weather look. My personal favorites for business casual looks are trouser jeans. The silhouette always looks more professional.
7. Layer Up with Fall Pieces
Your fall layers—such as cardigans, blazers, and lightweight jackets—are still essential for winter! Layer them over your long-sleeve tops and sweaters to add warmth while maintaining a professional and put-together appearance.
