It’s time for another mom-friendly seasonal capsule wardrobe! I know some of you were disappointed when I decided to skip my capsule wardrobe post this spring, but I’m back this summer. And I have to say, taking a short break helped me feel refreshed, inspired, and ready to bring some new ideas to this season’s capsule.

If you are new to my mom-friendly capsule wardrobe series that I do here at TWHL, then let me tell you a little about it! Each season, I put together an easy-to-style mom capsule wardrobe to help moms feel a little more put together in their everyday lives.
I believe that getting dressed should be the easiest part of your day, yet so many women, especially moms, feel overwhelmed by what to wear. Having a capsule wardrobe can help take the guesswork out of getting dressed. With a few versatile, go-to pieces, you’ll always have something to wear that makes you feel confident and put together, without the stress of sorting through a cluttered closet.
What’s in Mom Summer Capsule Wardrobe?
This summer, I really wanted to create an elevated capsule wardrobe filled with pieces that will help you step up your everyday outfits! Summer can be a tricky season to dress for, especially as a mom. Your routine changes when the kids are home, and getting dressed needs to be easy. It’s so easy to fall into the habit of reaching for the same comfortable outfits day after day.
With this capsule, my hope is that you’ll feel a little more stylish and confident in your everyday looks. I’ve included easy-to-wear shorts, versatile basic tops, and a few dresses and skirts that will help you feel pretty, put together, and effortlessly stylish each day.
Because summer temperatures are high, there aren’t as many layering opportunities as there are in other seasons. To make up for that, I often rely on accessories to add interest and personality to my outfits. I’ve included several accessories that I’m loving this summer and that can make a big impact on even the simplest outfits.
Tops:
- Black Tank Top (small)- I always love a basic black tank top in summer! I keep grabbing for this v-neck tank from Amazon. I like that it’s ribbed and super comfortable.
- Elevated Knit Tank Top (xsmall)- This sweater tank top from Quince is my elevated basic top for summer. I love the style, and gray goes with everything, so it’s super versatile!
- Striped Tank Top (small)- I love stripes, and this striped tank top from Amazon is a great option! I love that it has a built-in bra because it makes getting dressed so much easier when you don’t have to worry about what style of bra to pair with your top.
- Elevated Neutral Tank Top (small)- I added this elevated basic top from Amazon because I love the style! The ruffle sleeves are such a cute detail, and it comes in a bunch of colors. I have the tan, and it’s one of my favorites for dressing up everyday outfits.
Bottoms:
- Jean Shorts (25) – A cute pair of jean shorts is a summer wardrobe staple for me. This year, I tried the Bella Stretch Vintage Shorts from Quince, and they’ve been a great option! They have a 5-inch inseam and just the right amount of stretch for a comfortable fit.
- White Shorts (25) – I also always need a pair of white shorts in my summer wardrobe. This year, I included the Abercrombie White Dad Shorts that I shared in last year’s summer capsule wardrobe. They’re still one of my favorite denim short styles and are so easy to pair with everything.
- Linen Pull-On Shorts (25) – A comfortable pair of pull-on linen shorts is a must-have for me. I’ve been loving these High-Waisted European Linen Shorts from Quince. They’re comfortable, versatile, and come in so many great color options.
- White Maxi Skirt (Small) – I love how versatile skirts can be during the summer. This white maxi skirt from Amazon is one of my favorites. It’s easy to dress up or down and adds a feminine touch to any outfit.
Layers:
- Jean Jacket (Small) – A jean jacket is always a must-have for me. The one I’ve been reaching for most lately is from Dear John Denim. It has a great fit, the quality is excellent, and it’s become a staple in my wardrobe, so I had to include it in this capsule. (Use my code DJXKATIE20 for 20% off!)
- Cropped Cardigan (XS) – This white cropped cardigan from Quince has been my favorite layering piece lately! I included the tan version in my fall and winter capsule wardrobes, but I felt the white was perfect for summer. It’s lightweight, versatile, and pairs beautifully with everything in this capsule.
One-Pieces
- Gingham Midi Dress (XS) – I love this gauzy khaki gingham dress from Quince. It’s incredibly comfortable for summer, and I felt it was the perfect mom-friendly, wear-anywhere dress to include in this collection. It’s easy to dress up or down and is a great option for everything from running errands to summer gatherings.
- Casual Black Dress (Small) – I love the soft Cloud Knit material that many of my favorite lounge sets are made from, and this dress is essentially a dress version of that comfy loungewear. It’s the perfect throw-on-and-go dress for summer and can even double as a swimsuit cover-up. It’s an easy piece that will keep you feeling comfortable, cute, and put together all summer long!
Shoes:
- Strappy Sandals (7.5) – I’m usually all about slide sandals, but this summer I’ve been loving these strappy sandals from Amazon. They’re so cute, and I feel like they do a great job of elevating my summer outfits while still being comfortable enough for everyday wear.
- Wedge Sandals (8) – I wanted to include a dressier shoe option for summer. I love dressing up my outfits, but I also like to keep things comfortable and practical, so these wedge sandals from Target are the perfect balance. They add a little height while still being easy to walk in.
- White Sneakers (7.5) – I love a white sneaker that goes with everything! These white leather sneakers from Quince are my current favorites. The quality is fantastic, and they’re versatile enough to wear with everything from shorts and dresses to jeans and joggers.
Accessories:
- Straw Hat – I love a good straw hat, and I almost always include one in my summer capsule wardrobes. It’s the perfect way to elevate an outfit while also keeping the sun off your face and head.
- Baseball Cap – Of course, I always have a baseball cap in my capsules! It’s nice to have two hat options for summer, depending on the look you’re going for. A baseball cap is perfect for casual days, errands, and outdoor activities.
- Straw Crossbody Purse – In the summertime, I always gravitate toward straw bags. They instantly make an outfit feel more like summer! If you’re looking for a beautiful crossbody bag to add to your wardrobe, this purse from Eric Javits is so good. I’ve been carrying it almost every day! It’s stylish, versatile, and the perfect finishing touch for summer outfits.
- Colorful Beaded Necklaces – I am loving that colorful statement necklaces are having a moment right now. I included two in this capsule, but honestly, you only need one. I love that today’s statement necklaces feel more fun and wearable than the oversized styles of the past while still adding a pop of personality to an outfit.
- Belts – Belts are a great accessory for summer, especially when you can’t rely on layers but feel like your outfit needs a little something extra. These Amazon belts come in a two-pack, but I only used the tan belt in this capsule.
- Sunglasses – Lastly, sunglasses are a summer must-have! I love these Amazon sunglasses because they’re affordable, comfortable, and stay on my face perfectly. They’re an easy finishing touch for any summer outfit.
