Happy Spring! I’m back with another seasonal mom-friendly capsule wardrobe post. After the long, cold winter this year, I am so excited to lighten up my wardrobe and find new ways to elevate my spring style! That’s why I am super excited to share my spring capsule wardrobe for 2025!

If you are new to my mom-friendly capsule wardrobe series that I do here at TWHL, then let me tell you a little about it! Each season, I put together an easy-to-style mom capsule wardrobe to help moms feel a little more put together in their everyday lives.
I believe that getting dressed should be the easiest part of your day, yet so many women, especially moms, feel overwhelmed by what to wear. Having a capsule wardrobe can help take the guesswork out of getting dressed. With a few versatile, go-to pieces, you’ll always have something to wear that makes you feel confident and put together, without the stress of sorting through a cluttered closet.
My Capsule Wardrobe Formula
If you’ve seen my capsule wardrobes from prior posts, you may have started to notice a pattern in how I put them together. So, I’ll let you in on my secret.
To make my capsule wardrobes a little easier, I’ve created a basic formula that I follow. It consists of:
- 5 tops: a black/white basic, a neutral top, an elevated basic, a button-down, and a graphic top or statement blouse.
- 4 layers: a denim jacket, blazer, cardigan, and some sort of outerwear (depending on the season).
- 4-5 bottoms: jeans, white/black jeans, a colored bottom, leggings or joggers, and sometimes a skirt.
- 1-2 one-pieces: a jumpsuit or dress.
- 3 pairs of shoes: always a sneaker and 2 other options, depending on the season.
- 2 accessories: usually belts and hats.
My capsule choices change depending on the season and I do add in new pieces from time to time. I try to keep my capsules to no more than 25 items at most. I find that less is more.
What’s in the Mom-Friendly Spring Capsule Wardrobe for 2025?
This spring, my capsule is filled with some of my favorite spring finds. As always, I try to keep my capsule wardrobes a mix of causal and elevated pieces. I find having this mix helps me balance my everyday outfits so I never feel too dressed up, but I always feel put together.
One thing I do like to do with my capsule wardrobes is repeat pieces from my past capsules. The idea of having a capsule wardrobe is to buy less, so you shouldn’t feel the need to buy a whole new wardrobe each season. It’s fine to bring in a few new pieces to freshen things up, but it’s nice to invest in those basics and find new ways to style them all the time.
Tops:
- Black T-shirt (small)– I always start off with a black top, so it’s no surprise that for my spring capsule wardrobe, I am going with a short-sleeve shirt. Mine is from Target and I’ve had it for a while.
- Navy and White Striped T-shirt (small) – I can never have enough striped shirts. I love this navy striped t-shirt from Old Navy.
- Gray Lightweight Sweater (small) – I love wearing lightweight sweaters in spring. They are part of my everyday mom-form! You can pair them with all styles of bottoms, layer a jacket over them, or just wear it around your shoulders. I have a few options linked, but my favorite is from Old Navy!
- Chambray Button-down (x-small) – I love chambray button-down shirts. This year, I have three new chambray shirts because each one offers something different. I ended up going with my Walmart chambray button-down because I like how long it is—it works great with leggings. But a great option if you are looking to wear your chambray shirt with jeans or other bottoms besides leggings is this one from Maurices.
- Graphic Tee (small) – I went with a graphic tee for this capsule because I like the idea that a graphic tee is casual. You can switch it out for your kid’s baseball team shirt or your favorite sports team shirt. Giving you some outfit ideas with a graphic tee will show you how to wear any of the t-shirts you have in your closet!
Layers:
- Denim Jacket (x-small) – My favorite spring layer is always a denim jacket! You can layer a denim jacket over anything. I’m sure most women already own one, but if you are still on the hunt for a good one, I have a couple of recommendations. My favorite is my ABLE denim jacket, which I am wearing in the photos below. This is a higher price point, but it does go on sale, and the quality is worth it. If you don’t want to spend too much but still want something nice, I am loving this denim jacket from maurices. It’s a great budget-friendly option!
- Cardigan (small) – I love a good cardigan, and this spring, I have been obsessed with this lightweight cardigan from Old Navy. You can wear it buttoned up or leave it open. It’s lightweight, so it’s a great layer to wear even in the summer. It’s been one of my favorite recent purchases and it’s a perfect addition to this spring capsule wardrobe!
- Pink Blazer (x-small) – I find that blazers are the perfect way to elevate any outfit! Gibsonlook has my favorite style of blazer. They are thick enough to wear as a jacket in the spring but also work indoors as your layer. I went with pink for this capsule, but it comes in so many color options! My code is THRIFTYWIFE10, which gets you 10% off!
- Trench Coat – I always include a trench coat in my spring capsule wardrobe. It’s elevated and classic, so it will never go out of style. I have always struggled to find cute trench coats in stores because they often feel too trendy for me. This is why I ended up thrifting the one I’m wearing in this post on Poshmark. I wanted a nice brand, so I found this J.Crew trench coat, and it’s the perfect fit for me. I’ve linked some options to shop, but if you can’t find what you’re looking for, be sure to check out some ways to get one secondhand! You can probably find a better quality jacket at a more affordable price.
Bottoms:
- Cropped Wide-Leg Jeans (25/petite) – One thing that always helps me transition my winter wardrobe into spring is a pair of lighter-wash jeans. I found this pair at J.Crew Factory, and they were exactly what I was looking for! If you struggle with finding wide-leg jeans that are flattering, these are a great option!
- Cropped Wide-Leg Beige Jeans (0) – Another great pant find this year has been my Target Cropped Wide-Leg Sailor Jeans. I just shared them in a How to Wear It blog post this month, and people loved them! They do not come in petite lengths, so I ended up cutting the hem to get that cropped length (check out how I did that in this video HERE!)
- Green Linen Pants (x-small/petite) – I wanted to include these green linen pants from Old Navy in my spring capsule wardrobe because they are so comfortable! They are a great alternative to joggers. You feel more put together wearing these pants, yet you still get the comfort of sweatpants! They are nice and light and will be great to wear in summer as well!
- Leggings (x-small) – I like wearing leggings in the spring! After winter is over, I can set aside my fleece-lined leggings and wear my regular leggings. My favorite pair is this one from CRZ Yoga! They are called the Butterlift leggings—they offer support and compression while still staying comfortable.
Dresses:
- T-shirt Dress (small) – I always feel that a t-shirt dress is a great mom-friendly dress option, especially in spring! It’s very casual and easy to wear. This striped t-shirt dress from Old Navy is a great option! Pro mom-style tip: always wear bike shorts under your dress!
- Midi Dress (small) – I wanted to include a second dress option, and I just love how comfortable this midi dress from Amazon is. It’s a great dress to dress up for a spring concert or church, but you can also dress it down as well!
Shoes:
- Sneakers – I always need a sneaker option in my capsule wardrobes. I decided to go with my tried-and-true tennis shoes, which are my Adidas Samba sneakers. When creating your capsule, you can go with any shoe you like, but there are a lot of things I love about this particular pair. I find them to be flattering, especially if you are on the shorter side, because the design and style help elongate your foot. This is why they are my most worn shoes!
- Black Toe Sling-Back Flats – These shoes are so classic and a favorite of mine. They are the perfect way to elevate your outfit and dress it up without needing to wear a heel.
- Gold Ballet Flats – I am such a fan of ballet flats, and I am loving these classic gold flats. They are so easy to throw on and they match almost everything!
Accessories:
- Belts – Belts are a must-have accessory! I like to buy them in a two-pack so I get two different color options to work with. The belts I’m sharing in this post are the same ones I’ve shared in my last four capsules—they are my go-to belts!
- Hat – I always need a baseball hat in my wardrobe—I love them! My favorite style is the ’47 Clean Up Hat. I have this hat in all my favorite sports teams, but my gray Tigers hat gets worn the most!
