If you are new to my mom-friendly capsule wardrobe series that I do here at TWHL, then let me tell you a little about it! Each season, I put together an easy-to-style mom capsule wardrobe to help moms feel a little more put together in their everyday lives.
I believe that getting dressed should be the easiest part of your day, yet so many women, especially moms, feel overwhelmed by what to wear. Having a capsule wardrobe can help take the guesswork out of getting dressed. With a few versatile, go-to pieces, you’ll always have something to wear that makes you feel confident and put together, without the stress of sorting through a cluttered closet.
What’s in the Mom Winter Capsule Wardrobe?
I know that for many women, winter is the most challenging season to dress for. Staying warm and dressing for messy weather can often clash with wearing a cute and stylish outfit. Getting dressed every day as a busy mom can be hard enough, so with this capsule, I really wanted to simplify getting dressed for the season.
I tried to stick with the winter wardrobe staples that I love and wear the most. In the wintertime, I’m almost always wearing a coat when I leave the house, so it was important that the tops and layers I chose paired well with outerwear.
I also know that pairing shoes and pants is always a struggle in the winter, so I tried to pick jeans that would be easy to pair with most of the winter shoes you might already have in your closet.
As always, I hope you make this capsule your own. Use it as a guide to build a wardrobe with the clothes you already own, and choose the colors and styles that you love. And if you see anything here that you’d like to add to your closet, I’ve linked everything below!
Tops:
- Black Basic Top (small) — A black basic long-sleeve top for winter is a must. My favorite is from Amazon. It’s very comfortable and easy to layer.
- Brown Crewneck Sweater (small) — I love crewneck sweaters in the winter that are easy to layer and go with everything. The one I included in this post is a cashmere sweater from Quince. It’s very soft and great quality.
- Striped Sweater (small) — A striped sweater has always been a winter staple in my wardrobe. I found a cozy one at Target this year, and it goes with everything!
- Chambray Shirt — I love a soft chambray shirt that you can layer over or under sweaters in the winter. The one I have is from maurices, which I shared in my Spring Capsule Wardrobe, but it’s currently out of stock, so I linked some of my other favorite options.
- 1/4 Zip Pullover Sweatshirt (small) — I wear a lot of cozy casual tops in the winter, and this pullover from Amazon is one I reach for often.
Bottoms:
- Black Jeans (0/hem was altered) — I love my black Wit & Wisdom jeans that I also shared in my fall capsule wardrobe. Black jeans are always a fall and winter staple for me.
- Relaxed Straight-Leg Jeans (25/28 inch) — This winter, I wanted to pick jeans that pair easily with a lot of shoe options but are also long enough to cover the ankles. These Bella Relaxed Straight-Leg Jeans from Quince are perfect!
- Black Trouser Pants (0/Petite) — I’ve been loving trouser pants lately, especially wearing them in a more casual way (see how I styled them casually in this blog post HERE!). These Wit & Wisdom trousers are so comfortable!
- Slim Straight-Leg Jeans (25/28 inch) — I usually include skinny jeans in my winter capsules, but this year I went with a slim straight-leg. I felt that these jeans pair better with low ankle boots. They are very comfortable, and I’m becoming a big fan of Quince jeans!
- Fleece-Lined Leggings — I love wearing leggings in the winter, and fleece-lined leggings have made such a difference! They keep my legs so warm while still offering the cute legging styles I love to wear.
Layers:
- Brown Wool Coat (xsmall) — I always include a wool coat in my winter capsule wardrobes because I feel that most people have an everyday winter coat, but not everyone has an elevated winter coat. Wool coats can be worn with any winter outfit. If the outfit is more casual, a wool coat will elevate it and make you feel polished and put together. I typically share my camel coat from Abercrombie, but this year I went with a chocolate brown coat from Quince for a change. All the coats I linked are great options!
- Tan Coatigan — I love having a cozy long coatigan sweater. It’s in between a coat and a cardigan. The one I’m sharing is from Amazon, and it’s very comfortable! It’s easy to layer under coats, but if you live in a warmer climate and are looking for a coat alternative, it’s perfect for that too.
- Tan Cropped Cardigan — I love my tan cardigan from Quince, so I had to include it in this capsule wardrobe! It’s very versatile!
Shoes:
- Chelsea Boots (7.5) — I love Chelsea boots in the winter! They’re a great practical boot for when you don’t want to wear your snow boots but still need something for messy weather. I went with my go-to pair of Chelsea boots that I’ve worn for the last few years.
- Neutral Booties (7.5) — A good pair of booties that can elevate your outfit is always a must in my winter wardrobe. I like a lighter color because it usually elongates my short legs, but you can also go with a darker chocolate brown.
- Sneakers (7) — I wear sneakers a lot in the winter. They go with everything! My favorite pair is my Adidas Sambas. I know you’ve seen them in almost every capsule since I got them, but that just shows how much I love them! You can choose whatever sneaker you like best.
Accessories
- Tan and Black Belts — If you’ve seen my prior capsule wardrobe posts, then I’m sure you know these Amazon belts. I wear them all the time, and I like having two different color options to choose from.
- Baseball Cap — Another repeat accessory from my capsule wardrobe posts over the years is my ’47 baseball caps. They’re the best! I have one of these hats for all my favorite sports teams.
- Ribbed Socks — Socks are an important accessory in the winter. I chose these ribbed socks from Amazon because they work with all my winter shoes. You can wear them with boots or sneakers.
