I’m back with another mom-friendly capsule wardrobe! Can you believe spring is already upon us? The winter here in Michigan has been unusually mild, so it feels like spring has arrived early! If you are new to my mom-friendly capsule wardrobe series that I do here at TWHL, then let me tell you a little about it! Each season, I put together an easy-to-style mom capsule wardrobe to help moms feel more put together in their everyday lives. My goal is to make getting dressed the easiest part of your day.
I always find that less is more. A capsule wardrobe gives you a variety of clothes to wear without overwhelming your wardrobe. When building an affordable wardrobe I think it’s important to focus on versatile clothing that you can wear for any occasion. That’s why I love to put together these capsules and give you plenty of outfit ideas for the upcoming season!
What’s in my Mom Spring Capsule Wardrobe
This may be my favorite capsule wardrobe that I have done so far! I picked out some of my go-to favorite spring staples, along with a few new favorites in my wardrobe to create this versitle capsule. With only 20 pieces I was able to get over 130 outfits!! I had to shorten it down to share only 75 outfits for the posts, but I think you will have plenty of outfit ideas to work with!
One thing I wanted to focus on with this spring capsule wardrobe was bringing in some elevated pieces. Mom-friendly fashion typically refers to clothes that are practical, comfortable, and easy to wear around children. Often moms forget that “practical and comfortable” can also be stylish.
It’s easy to prioritize comfort and forget about style, but this collection proves you can have both effortlessly. I have included a few sophisticated pieces that blend in perfectly with the casual flow of the capsule. Hopefully, you will have plenty of outfit ideas to copy this spring!
How to Shop the Spring Mom Capsule Wardrobe?
My main goal for putting together my capsule wardrobe posts is that you can use them as a free guide to create your own spring capsule wardrobe with the clothes in your closet. I always recommend shopping your closet first, then you can evaluate what you already have. If you feel that your closet is lacking in some areas, then you can create a wishlist of items to add to your wardrobe. You can use this capsule as a starting point, but don’t be afraid to put your spin on it.
If you do feel like you would like to add some of the pieces I share here to your wardrobe, I try to offer as many exact links as possible. (Please note that I do not update links when they sell out.) These pieces are linked in the photos that you can click on under each category. I also have linked them to the text. Anything in bold print can be clicked on and will take you directly to the site where the item is located to shop. If you follow me on the LTK shopping app, I will also have all my outfits linked HERE in my spring capsule wardrobe collection.
For sizing reference, I am 5’1 and around 108lb. I typically wear an xsmall or small in tops and a size 2/petite or 0/petite in pants. I wear a 7.5 shoe size. Everything fits TTS unless I state otherwise.
Tops:
- Black Tank Top (small)- A black tank top is essential in my capsule wardrobe—it’s my go-to base layering piece. Versatile and timeless, it effortlessly goes together with almost any outfit. I’ve found some of my favorite tank tops at Target; their quality-to-price ratio is unbeatable. And if a black t-shirt suits your style better, it’s another excellent option to consider for your wardrobe essentials.
- Striped Short Sleeve T-Shirt (x-small)- You can’t go wrong with black and white stripes! A striped t-shirt is another timeless wardrobe essential. Currently, I am really loving crewneck T-shirts. With a crewneck, you must find a neckline that will lay flat, even after you wash it. This striped t-shirt from WHBM is a great option. It’s one of my favorites at the moment.
- Neutral Crewneck Lightweight Sweater (small)- A lightweight sweater is a great way to transition from the colder weather into the warmer seasons. It’s nice to have a sweater that is thin enough to easily layer under a jacket, but cozy enough to wear on it’s own. This crewneck sweater from Old Navy is the one I’m wearing in the post. It’s a great option at a great price! I will say that this sweater runs small!
- Mini Blue Striped Button-Down Shirt (x-small)- I always love to add a button-down shirt to my capsule wardrobes because I find them to be so versatile. Their timeless charm effortlessly elevates any casual mom style! You can wear them on their own or layer them under or over pieces. This spring I am all about the mini blue striped button-downs. Mine is from Old Navy, but I also shared some other favroties above!
- Graphic T-Shirt (x-small)- If you’re a mom, chances are you’ve got a graphic tee nestled somewhere in your wardrobe. When styled with the right pieces a graphic t-shirt can be very cute and polished looking. I bought this graphic t-shirt at Abercrombie and I love it! I’m very picky about the feel of my graphic t-shirts, but this one meets my high standards!
Layers
- Denim Jacket (small)- A denim jacket is not new to my capsule wardrobes. They are my absolute favorite layering piece, especially during the in-between seasons. For spring, I always love a medium to light-washed denim jacket. It just brightens up the outfits. My newest favorite denim jacket is from ABLE. It is a bit of a splurge, but it’s such a great quality piece from a sustainable brand. I highly recommend it. If you are looking for some save option, I have enjoyed my Maurice denim jacket. It’s also a good quality jacket and it’s the one I am styling in the post. Also Walmart Time and Tru brand makes a great denim jacket as well. All these jackets are comfortable and easy to layer with!
- Coatigan (small)- You might recognize this coatigan from my winter capsule wardrobe. I love this piece so much that I couldn’t resist including it in my spring lineup. While it leans towards the trendier side, its practicality and versatility make it a fantastic addition to any wardrobe, worth giving a try.
- Striped Lady Cardigan (small)- I love the lady cardigan trend. It’s such a classic-looking piece and the perfect way to elevate your mom style. I have this striped lady cardigan from Amazon which is at a great price point. I also linked some similar cardigans from Amazon as well above.
- Pink Blazer (x-small)- Last year my spring capsule had a navy blazer, which is still one of my favorite spring layering pieces, but this year I wanted to go with pink. I love a pale pink blazer for spring. My favorite is this Notched Collar Blazer from Gibsonlook (use code: THIRFTYWIFE10 for 10% off). I also am loving these 2 options HERE and HERE!
- Kahki Trench Coat– A trench coat is another classic staple that I will always include in my spring capsule wardrobe posts. Who would have thought that a trench coat I bought at Forever 21 would last over a decade in my wardrobe? I just love the timeless style of this coat. I have yet to find a need to replace this jacket so I keep wearing it. I have linked a few similar options that caught my eye HERE, HERE, and HERE!
Bottoms
- Green Cropped Wide-Leg Pants (0/petite)- A few people were disappointed when I didn’t include my Old Navy green cropped wide-leg pants in my spring capsule last year, so I was sure to include them this year. These pants are so perfect to dress up or down. I wore them so much last year in my everyday mom outfits. I just know they will make a perfect addition to your wardrobe!
- White Cropped Kick-Flare Pants– I love a pair of white pants for spring. They brighten up any spring outfit. I know a lot of mom’s are afraid of wearing white and I can completely understand. Use your best judgement when wearing white with kids, but don’t let your fears stop you from wearing what you want to wear. The exact pair of pants I am wearing are from the brand Paige and they were thrifted on Goodwill Finds. Thrifting is my favorite way to find high-quality brands at an affordable price! You can shop similar options HERE, HERE, and HERE!
- High-Waisted Ankle Straight Jeans (small/regular)- I am always getting requests for in-style comfortable jeans that you can wear around the house. So when I found the FlexX jeans line at Express, I knew they would be a big hit! These jeans are stretchy and flex with your size.
- Midi Denim Skirt (0)- I have always been a fan of a denim skirt, so last fall I had to grab this denim skirt from Target. I like that the denim makes it feel casual, yet it’s a skirt which gives it an elevated look. You can check out my post Trends to Try- 6 Denim MIDI Skirt Outfits For Fall for more outfit ideas!
Jumpsuit
- Black wide-leg jumpsuit– I am a huge fan of jumpsuits. I find jumpsuits to be a great mom-friendly option. I call them a throw-on-and-go outfit. It’s cute on its own or you can layer it up. I opted to buy my jumpsuit at Abercrombie because they had some petite sizes available. When shopping for wide-leg pants, I always need a shorter size. I have also linked a few other black jumpsuit options HERE and HERE!
Shoes
- Adidia’s Sombas (7, go down a half size)- This shoe caught my eye a couple of months ago when I realized that all the outfits that I was pinning on Pinterest had one thing in common. They all were wearing Adidia Sombas. I think these are a great spring sneaker and they are also so classic. Sneakers are always shoes that get worn a lot in my wardrobe, so splurging a little on a good pair doesn’t bother me.
- Black Cap Toe Sling Back Flats– This is another trend I am loving this spring! These cap-toed flats resemble Channel shoes and they have such a timeless style to them. They are perfect to elevate any casual everyday look!
- Cognac Slides– These sandals are another designer-inspired shoe, meant to resemble the Hermes sandals. Target has had this style in the past, but this year’s version is so cute! I had to grab them! I find sandals like this easy to style. They are very laid back and casual, yet also have an elevated look to them.
Accessories
- Baseball Cap– There is always a 47′ clean-up baseball cap in my capsule wardrobe. I wear hats often and I have found this brand and style of hat to be the most flattering.
- Black Belt– I always like to make sure I have a good wear-with-anything belt in my wardrobe. I’ve been so happy with this Amazon belt! It’s such great quality and I liked it so much that I have it in 2 colors. I felt that black worked best for this capsule.
