Why a capsule wardrobe?
Capsule wardrobe posts have become a staple in my content here at TWHL. It all started back in 2022 when I shared my first official teacher capsule wardrobe post. I always shared affordable teacher outfits in late summer when school starts back up, but I never thought to do a capsule wardrobe. I was shocked by the response I got. People loved having a few pieces to choose from and used the capsule and all the outfit inspiration to help them style their outfits throughout the school year.
My goal with this teacher capsule wardrobe is not only to make getting dressed easier in the morning, but also to help you have a little more fun with your everyday work clothes. Teachers have a unique workwear style because they get to work with kids. When you love what you wear, it shows—and your students will notice it too.
My capsule is filled with basic pieces that are easy to mix and match. I also love to include a couple of trendier items, along with some pops of print and color. At the end, you’ll find 90 outfit ideas to show you how to actually style all these pieces together!
What’s in the 2025 Teacher Capsule Wardrobe
Tops
- White T-shirt (small) – A white t-shirt is always a great basic to have! The ribbed t-shirt I’m wearing in this capsule is from Amazon, and I love it.
- Pink Elevated Top (small) – This pink striped top from Amazon is the perfect elevated basic! I love the sleeves and the neckline.
- Short-Sleeved Chambray Button-Down (small) – This short-sleeved chambray shirt is another piece from Amazon. I love the detailing on this blouse and how it can be worn with almost every bottom in my closet.
- Short-Sleeved Sweater (small) – This short-sleeved sweater is a great basic for fall. It’s a little warmer than your typical t-shirt, but it’s thin enough to layer and wear year-round.
- Graphic Tee (small) – I always include a graphic tee because I know teachers love them. Even if it’s just your school t-shirts, it’s always fun to show how versatile a graphic tee can be.
Layers
- Pink Blazer (XS, Code: THRIFTYWIFE10) – This pink blazer is one of my favorites. The color goes with so much, which is why you’ve seen it featured in many of my past capsule wardrobe posts.
- Yellow Cardigan (Small) – I had to include this yellow cardigan in the capsule because I love the color! I have the same cardigan in tan and wear it all the time. I thought it would be fun to show how you can incorporate a bright, cheerful color into your everyday workwear outfits.
- Tan Cardigan (Small) – There are so many great styles of cardigans available, and this textured tan one is a favorite. It’s so cute and perfect for layering over any outfit.
- Denim Jacket (XS) – I always love a denim jacket! It’s a teacher staple, and I love showing all the different ways you can wear it in the classroom.
Bottoms
- Navy Wide-Leg Cropped Pants (0) – I love these LC Lauren Conrad navy cropped wide-leg pants. I was bummed that they don’t come in a petite length, but I was still able to make them work. They’re so comfortable, and I feel like navy is always a great color to have!
- Off-White Wide-Leg Cropped Jeans (0) – I’ve really been loving my wide-leg cropped jeans from Target this year. I included them in my spring capsule wardrobe and wanted to repeat them in the teacher capsule. They come in a lot of color options, but I love the off-white—it’s less intimidating than bright white and goes with everything!
- Black Trousers (0/Petite) – Black trousers are always a great work staple for any job. I love these Wit & Wisdom black trousers I bought during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale—they’re so comfortable!
- Cropped Kick Flare Jeans (0/Petite) – I repeated the same jeans from my last teacher capsule wardrobe because I love this style. I always feel like you can’t go wrong with dark denim at work.
- Green Maxi Skirt (Small) – I’m loving this green maxi skirt from Amazon. It’s so comfortable and looks so pretty on. It comes in lots of color options, but I chose olive green for fall.
One-Pieces
- Floral Dress (XS) – I bought this blue floral dress over the summer, and I’ve been loving it. I wanted to include it in the capsule to show how you can rewear a dress you may have originally purchased for family photos or a baby shower and get even more use out of it by styling it for work.
Shoes
- Block Heel Neutral Shoes (7.5) – I love neutral shoes because they not only help draw attention to your outfit, but they also elongate your legs and make you look taller. These Anne Klein heels are one of my favorite pairs. With the padding and block heel, they’re the perfect comfortable teacher heel.
- Gold Ballet Flats – Ballet flats were always a staple in my teacher wardrobe, so I love including a pair in my teacher capsule. This gold pair from Amazon is one I wear on repeat!
- Neutral Sneakers – I love these neutral-colored sneakers from Walmart. They’re stylish, comfortable, and super affordable!
Accessories
- Belt – A belt is one of the best accessories to have in your teacher capsule wardrobe. I included my tan belt, but it actually comes in a pack of two—so you’ll have two color options to choose from when getting dressed.
