If you’ve been following along with me here at TWHL for a long time, you know that I used to be a preschool teacher. I taught at a Head Start preschool program in Nevada, and before that, at a few different preschool programs here in Michigan. As an early childhood teacher, I always felt that the internet was lacking in preschool teacher outfit ideas. That’s why I wanted to share some outfits that I would wear today if I were still teaching preschool.

Preschool teacher outfits are a little different from those worn by teachers in elementary, middle, or high school. In all the programs I worked in, I spent my entire day with my class—I ate with them, painted with them, went outside with them, and even sat with them during nap time. It was a very hands-on job.
When it came to putting together outfits, most of the schools I worked at had a casual dress code. You could wear jeans and sneakers, but you still had to look professional. I always felt it was important to present myself in a professional way while still keeping my style comfortable and practical.
It’s been over six years since I last shared preschool teacher outfit ideas, so today I’ve rounded up some looks that I recently shared that I could see myself wearing today if I were still working as a preschool teacher.

Preschool Outfits I Would Wear to Work if I Were Still Teaching:
Dresses with a layer
One of the most comfortable workwear pieces is a dress (or a skirt). I often wore them when I was a preschool teacher, usually layered with either a denim jacket or a cardigan. It’s such an easy outfit combination and works well for teachers in any setting.

Jeans
Most days as a preschool teacher, I opted for jeans. My go-to formula was usually jeans paired with a top, a cardigan, and ballet flats. Here are some outfit ideas showing how I would style jeans as a preschool teacher today.

Black Jeans
I also wore black jeans often to work. They’re always a safe option. They are casual yet polished enough to look professional. All of the outfits below would make great preschool teacher looks.

Comfy Pants
Leggings and sweatpants weren’t allowed in my workplace, but that doesn’t mean you can’t wear comfortable pants. There are so many great options that are both polished and put-together for work. Here are a few ideas!
