Products I Use
I usually wash my hair every other day. If I can squeeze an extra dirty hair day out I will, but I have an oily scalp so my hair builds up a lot of oilies very quickly. I don’t use many hair products in my hair because I like to keep my hair feeling soft and clean, but I do use a few. After I shampoo and condition in the shower, these are the products and tools I use.
Not Your Mother’s Blonde Moment Leave-in Conditioner- Before I blow dry my hair, I always use a leave-in conditioner to help me brush out my hair. I am currently using Not Your Mother’s Blonde Moment Leave-in conditioner. I like that it helps protect my hair and keeps my blonde highlights from getting brassy.
SGX NYC Blaze Heat Protection Primer- This heat protection primer helps protect my hair before I use heat on it. I like the price of this heat protection spray and it seems to do a great job!
SGX NYC Piece Maker Beachy Texture Spray- To get the beachy waves look I like to use a texture spray. This helps hold the curl and also gives volume. I don’t always use a texture spray, but I do when I want it to last a little longer.
Remington Flat Iron- I bought this straightener years ago from Ulta. I kept getting asked about it on Instagram and I was happy to finally find the same straightener on Amazon. It’s under $20, and it’s a great straightener It doesn’t damage my hair and it heats up fast.
Tips for curling fine hair with a straightener
I have been curling my hair with a straightener for many years now and I have learned a few tricks along the way. I don’t always curl my hair with a flat iron. Sometimes I use a curling iron, but when my hair is cut short like it is at the moment I prefer a straightener. Here are some tips to help my curls last longer.
1.) Start curling from the back of your head- I saw this in a YouTube video years ago and I’ve been using it ever since. When I start curling in the back of my head it’s easier to see what pieces of hair I’ve missed.
2.) Run the straightener through your hair first to heat up the hair- This is another tip I got from a YouTube video years ago and it just stuck. I find that heating up my hair first and then going in to curl helps hold the curl longer. You just need to be careful not to over-apply the heat.
3.) After you’re done, let your curls cool to set your hair- I usually give myself a few minutes to let my hair cool down.
4.) Do not use a brush- Once your curls are set, use your fingers to separate the hair. A brush will take the curls out.
