Spring Outfit ideas

It’s May and as promised I’m sharing my favorite daily outfits from the month of April.  Spring is my favorite time of the year in Las Vegas.  The weather is warming up and all the flowers are blooming.  I’ve been wearing a lot of tank tops and sandals this month.  I’m trying to enjoy the days of warm days before they turn into unbearably hot days. Scroll down to find all the details on my favorite outfits from the month!

My C-section Story

April 18, 2019 by Katie Haller

My C-section Story

Some of you may or may not know that Jack was born via C-section.  I don’t think that I have ever shared my story about it, besides touching on it a little in my birth story post (HERE), but I never shared the whole experience.  Since April is Cesarean Awareness Month, I felt like it was the perfect time to open up about my experience with my C-section.  It’s something that I’m not 100% comfortable sharing for all to read, but I want to share my story because 3 years ago as I recovered and got to know my newborn son, I was feeling very alone.  I hope that in telling my story, it might bring some comfort to another new mom going through the same thing.

I never ever thought that I would need a C-section.  I was completely prepared for a long painful labor, but I never thought that I would need to have an unexpected C-section delivery.  I didn’t research it at all.  I watched a bunch of different birth stories on Youtube, but I never once watched one about a c-section.  It was the last thing from my mind.

My labor with Jack started when my water broke 11 days before his due date.  After not truly believing that I was in labor, I decided to hold off on going to the hospital until I started contractions. (Bad idea, don’t do this, but what can I say, I was a first-time mom.) My contractions started about 3 hours after my water broke and that’s when my husband and I headed to the hospital.  I remember that drive to the hospital being extremely painful.  It was something out of the movies.  The contractions were strong and painful as soon as they started, and when I got to the hospital I learned that my labor was progressing very quickly.  I was happy to hear that I could have an epidural as soon as they finished my blood work.  It all seemed to go very quickly and before I knew it I was sitting comfortably with an epidural going through labor and waiting for my baby to arrive.

Finally, the nurse said it was time to start pushing.  It started off slowly, but it started to get very intense after about an hour or so.  No matter how hard I pushed, the baby was not coming down at all.  It was so frustrating.  The nurse had turned off my epidural, so I felt every contraction.  After 3 hours of pushing, the nurse called my doctor and he said that the best option would for me to have a C-section.  My other options were to possibly use a vacuum to help get the baby out, which all seemed very scary and traumatic for me and the baby.  I didn’t want to have a c-section.  I wanted a natural birth.  I wanted to be the first person to hold my baby.  I had this idea in my mind of what it would be like when the baby came out and c-section was not in that plan.  I was also exhausted from pushing and in a lot of pain, so I took the doctor’s advice and went with the c-section.  I was scared, but at the same time I was in so much pain, I barely thought about the whole idea of being cut open when I was awake.

I remember shaking uncontrollably on the table.  The nurse told me that was normal and it was because of all the pushing.  I was scared, but I just focused on my husband’s eyes.  The nurses had him sitting across the room from me, I didn’t know why.  I wanted him close to me, but looking at him just helped me stay calm and distract myself from the fact that I was being cut open while I was still awake.  When I saw tears in his eyes I knew Jack was out.  Then I heard the sweetest little cry ever.  It comforted me to hear Jack and hear everyone in the room telling us what a beautiful baby he was.  Finally, the nurse brought him over to me and we just looked at each other.  I was too scared to move my arms so I just kissed him and told him I loved him.  Kevin snapped this picture below of us which is one of my favorite pictures ever.

My C-section Story

After the surgery, I felt great.  The drugs were working wonderfully and I was on such a high just holding my beautiful new baby, but then the medicine wore off and the pain set in.  It was scary leaving the comfort of the hospital.  I liked having someone checking on us every hour that I could ask a million questions.  Luckily my sister-in-law came to town and stayed with us until my mother-in-law could get to town.  She had a C-section with my nephew and understood what I had gone through.  Nursing was hard because I just couldn’t figure out a good position, plus Jack was tongue-tied and had a horrible latch, which caused a lot of pain for me.  For the first week, all I remember was the pain from the surgery, the pain from nursing and crying every 5 minutes over nothing.  I remember calling my mom and crying to her because I felt like I was a failure for having a C-section.  I felt like I had failed as a woman.  I didn’t have any friends at the time who had a c-section, and I especially didn’t know anyone who had one with their first baby.  I felt so alone.

With time, my body started to heal and I started to feel better.  Emotionally I felt better too.  My feelings of failing faded, especially as I got more comfortable with my new role as a mother.  Now 3 years later looking back, I don’t know why I couldn’t just accept the facts and enjoyed those first couple weeks at home more.  In no way do I feel like I failed as a woman anymore.  I am proud of the fact that I went through all that and came out with a beautiful healthy little boy.

I know that when and if I’m blessed with another baby one day, the conversation is going to come up about having a planned C-section.  The idea of having a planned c-section is scarier to me than having an unplanned c-section.  The first time around I was in so much pain I didn’t care as much about what was going on.  Being aware of everything seems scarier to me. But it might be something I may have to consider when the time comes.  It’s something that I’m not going to think about until the time comes.
C-sections are very common in this day and age, and no one should feel guilty or feel like a failure like I did.  I know that it was helpful for me to have people in my life that I could talk to.  I also should have read a few more C-section birth stories while preparing for my birth.  You never know what God’s plans are, but usually, his plan is better than yours, so it’s best just to let him lead the way when it comes to things like childbirth.  Healthy baby, healthy mom is the best birth plan you can have.  I’m so grateful for my little blessing every day.

Restyling Your Wardrobe

April 15, 2019 by Katie Haller

Restyling your wardrobe- ruffled dress with leopard belt
Lately, I’ve been really feeling the itch to shop.  I’ve been spending a lot of time browsing online and in stores trying to figure out what I really want to buy, but as always I have to keep my clothes spending to a minimum.  It can be hard for me sometimes as a blogger because I always feel pressure to share something new and trendy.  Sometimes I have a hard time identifying what I really want, with what I think I want because I see everyone else is wearing it.  That’s why I have 2 methods that I use to keep my unnecessary purchase or impulse buys to a minimum.  1.) I keep an ongoing shopping list on my phone of my needs and wants.  2.) I try to shop in my closet first before I buy new clothes.
Lately, I’ve been eyeing dresses.  I see so many cute dresses out there, but I also have a closet full of dresses that I rarely wear.  For today’s outfit, I picked a dress I got last summer from PinkBlush (See post HERE).  I’ve only worn it once or twice and for me, that’s not enough.  I try to wear my clothes as much as I can in different ways, that’s why I decided to restyle my dress to wear it a bit differently for this summer.

I love the style of this dress, but it’s always been a little big on me.  I’d like to hold on to it though because I think it would be perfect to wear for future maternity wear (if needed).  I decided to add a belt to help define my waist a little.  A belt is always a good way to restyle a dress when you get bored of wearing it the same way.  I wore my black espadrille wedge shoes, that I bought 4 years ago on clearance at Target.  I keep telling myself that I want a new pair of espadrille wedges, but I still have a couple pairs that I love in my closet, so I figured I will hold off for now.

Sometimes instead of spending, your best bet is to take a closer look in your own wardrobe to see what you already have. One of my favorite fictional characters is Carrie Bradshaw and I always love a good Carrie quote.  One of my favorites is… “Maybe the best any of us can do is not quit, play the hand we’ve been dealt and accessorize what we’ve got.”

We can’t all be shopping all the time and have the latest most trendy wardrobes, but it doesn’t mean that you can’t be stylish with what you already have.

How to Take a Basic Outfit from Day to Night

April 9, 2019 by Katie Haller

Day to night outfit
I don’t know about you, but I’ve always felt that there are 2 different ways to dress for the day and night.  I’ve also been known to overthink them both, that’s why today I’m sharing 2 looks, wearing the same exact base outfit.  This base outfit is so simple, it’s just a black tank top, jeans with a necklace and earrings.  All I did was switch out my shoes and purse to take this look from day to night.

Day Look

During the day I like to stay casual and comfortable.  I typically wear flat shoes and carry a large tote purse to keep all my toddler gear in.  I love wearing simple tank tops and t-shirts because you can always change them up by the way you style them.  For this day look, I knotted my top at the bottom.

Night Look

I always feel like the night has a dressier feel.  I like to put on a pair of heels or wedge shoes.  I’m 5’1 so I always like to add a little height when I can.  I also like to ditch my big mom purse whenever I have the chance to get out without my little guy.  My go-to, kid-free purse is my leopard clutch.  Leopard is always a great statement accessory.

The Perfect Spring Momiform

April 1, 2019 by Katie Haller

Yellow tank top- Spring Outfit
I have some exciting news that I’ve been dying to share with you guys.  I can’t share all the details right now, but what I want to tell you today is that this school year will be my last year working as a preschool teacher.  I’m retiring, well sort of.  I don’t think you can officially retire when you have little kids at home.  Basically, I won’t be a full time working mom anymore.  This has been something that my husband and I have been planning for a long time and with his recent upgrade to captain this year, it just seems like the perfect time for me to quit my job.  It’s no secret that I’ve been struggling for a while to balance work with being a wife, mother and also a blogger.  I’m very thankful that I’m able to have this opportunity to stop working at this point in my life and not have to make any major scarifies financially.  I’m hoping that I will be able to focus more of my attention on my family.  I want to be a better wife and mom.  I also hope that I can spend more time on my blog.  As Jack gets older, I have been really struggling to find time for blogging, so I’m so excited that I will have more time to put into that.
Without having a job with a dress code, this will definitely give me the opportunity to have more fun with my wardrobe.  I can’t complain too much about my current work dress code, because it’s pretty casual, but I look forward to wearing open-toed shoes, distressed jeans and best of all… leggings whenever I want.  I’m just looking forward to not having anyone tell me how to dress.  Even though I will not have a job to get dressed for, I’m still going to want to get ready every day and have a fun cute outfit to wear, even if I’m just hanging around the house.  I have a feeling that I will really be embracing the momiform.
Today I want to share the perfect spring momiform.  I found this look for under $20 at Old Navy last weekend.  I’ve been loving anything and everything yellow, so when I saw this yellow daisy print tank top for only $5, I had to have it.  I’ve also been loving light washed denim.  These jeans were on sale for only $15.  I love the rise on them and I also like that they are a light weight material which is perfect for the spring.  This is the type of outfit I hope to wear more often.  Scroll down for all the outfit details.

March Daily Outfits Review

March 30, 2019 by Katie Haller

Daily Outfits
Hey guys! It’s time for another daily outfit review.  March was a long month for me.  I have to say that these 31 day months are a little harder to get through, especially when you have no days off work. I’m patiently waiting for my spring break next month. It’s been hard seeing all my family and friends on social media enjoy their spring breaks already, but it’s okay. Good things are worth waiting for.

Anyway, March was another busy month.  It’s been nice that the weather is warming up and it’s staying light longer.  This means better outfits and better lighting for outfit selfies.  That’s probably why I have a good selection of outfits this month.  I love being able to share my daily looks with you all because these are my real outfits I put together, not that I don’t wear the other outfits I share, but you can see how I repeat my clothes and still wear a new outfit each day. Scroll down to see all my favorite looks from the month.
