Helping women love what they wear on a budget

Where to Buy Affordable Maternity Clothes

February 10, 2020 by Katie Haller

Today I’m continuing my series on Building a Maternity Wardrobe on a Budget.  As I’ve mentioned before, it can be overwhelming trying to figure out what kinds of maternity clothes to buy and how to do it all on a budget.  You only get to wear them for a few months, so you want to be sure that what you are buying is necessary.  If you missed my first post in this series on what maternity clothes you need to buy and what you don’t need to buy, I recommend you go back and read it! (Post HERE) If you’re all caught up, then today I’m moving on to talking about where you can buy affordable maternity clothes.

There are a lot of maternity brands out there, but many of them are pretty pricy.  I know a lot of people swear by certain brands and say they are worth the money, but for me, I cannot bring myself to spend $100 on a pair of maternity leggings.  If I’m going to spend that much, I better be buying something that will last me for the rest of my life and nothing maternity will be worn for that long.
Many of my favorite affordable maternity brands are pretty much no-brainers.  Some of my favorite stores that I normally shop at sell maternity clothes.  Here is a list of my favorite stores to buy maternity clothes.

*This post contains affiliate links, which means by making a purchase through a link I will earn a small commission for this blog.  Thank you for your support!

Old Navy

Old Navy is always my go-to for affordable basics and their maternity department is basically the same.  I do recommend sizing down in their maternity jeans and pants.  From my experience, most maternity pants are just too baggy.  Since I like my jeans to fit the same as my pre-pregnancy jeans I always size down.

Gap

Gap is the same as Old Navy to me.  Great basics and classic styles.  I’ve recently been shopping more at Gap Factory because I live closer to an outlet mall and I like their prices a little better.  Both stores have a good maternity selection at affordable prices.

H&M maternity clothes
I recently tried on some maternity jeans at H&M and I was very disappointed in the fit.

H&M

H&M is another great place to find good basics.  I recently bought some leggings and tops from H&M and I was really pleased with them.  Good prices and cute styles.  I will, however, mention that I did try on a bunch of their jeans last time I was at the store and I was extremely disappointed.  They fit too low and no matter what size I tried, bigger or smaller, they were just too tight.  I don’t think I will be buying a pair of their maternity jeans, but everything else I’ve been really happy with.

Target spring maternity dress
Target not only has great basics, but they also have the cutest dresses for spring!

Target

I am very impressed with Target’s maternity selection.  Their Isabel Maternity by Ingrid & Isabel brand has some of the cutest basics and also some really pretty dresses, perfect for baby showers or special occasions.  It’s a great place to find good work clothes for the office too.  I also like that most Target stores carry some of their maternity clothes in the store, so it’s a great place to try on things and get a feel for your size.

Pink Blush Maternity floral spring dress
PinkBlush always has the cutest dresses.  Their non-maternity dresses and tops work great for maternity wear too!

PinkBlush

I might be a little biased, but I love PinkBlush!  I’ve been a style ambassador for them for a while and I own a lot of their clothes, many are non-maternity pieces that are also perfect to wear as maternity wear.  Their clothes are of great quality plus they have the cutest styles and prints.  They have a huge selection of clothes, so whether you want comfy clothes, work clothes or special occasion dresses, PinkBlush has something for everyone.  Their price point is a little higher than the other stores I’ve mentioned, but this isn’t hard to get around.  They always have the best sales and discount codes, so you never have to pay full price.

Amazon

What does Amazon not have?  They have a great maternity selection.  Pretty much anything maternity you can think of, plus with Amazon Prime, you get free shipping.  I feel like I don’t need to convince you that Amazon is a great place to find maternity clothes at affordable prices because most people already know this.

Motherhood Maternity

I’ve been really loving the sales I’ve been seeing at Motherhood Maternity.  I recently bought a pair of leggings for $11 and I’ve been really happy with them.  Great support and very comfortable.  I like that they sell a lot of different brands and they always have a great sale going on.  If you have a Motherhood Maternity store at a mall near you, it’s also a great place to go try on clothes, especially jeans.  They also will send you a ton of coupons and samples when you order online.  I always get excited about that!

Asos

I’ve never actually tried any clothes myself from Asos, but they have some really cute stuff.  They have a nice selection of maternity clothes, but I found their basic pieces…leggings, tops, and bras to be the best prices.
………………………………………………………………………

Once you have an idea of the brands of maternity clothes you like, you can shop them second hand.  Shopping for clothes second hand is always a little scary, but that’s why it’s good to know what you like ahead of time.

Consignment Stores

Many kid consignment stores also sell maternity clothes.  The nice thing about consignment stores is that they buy clothes from people, so they are picky about the styles they take and the condition of the clothes, which makes it a little easier of a shopping experience if you aren’t used to shopping second hand.

Thrift Stores

I’ve yet to have any luck with maternity clothes at thrift stores like Goodwill or Salvation Army, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t find anything.  I actually find thrift stores a great place to find non-maternity clothes that can be worn as maternity clothes.  Especially if you are early in your pregnancy and not ready to wear actual maternity clothes yet.

ThredUp

ThredUp is my favorite online thrift store.  They don’t have a huge maternity selection, but you can find a few things here and there.  I find their filter system on the website and app much easier than navigating an actual thrift store.

Poshmark

I’m finding all sorts of maternity clothes on Poshmark.  Many items are brand new with tags on them.  It’s also a great place to sell your old maternity clothes after you are done using them.

Mercari

I just recently downloaded the Mercari app.  Lots of people are selling maternity clothes for really good prices, so it’s a great place to look for inexpensive maternity clothes.

Clothing Swaps

Sometimes you can find a local clothing swap.  They are a great idea for recycling your clothes.  If you belong to a local mom Facebook group or church group you might be able to find a maternity clothing swap going on, so it’s something to keep a lookout for.

Hand-me-down

If you are lucky enough to have a friend, sister or sister-in-law who has some maternity clothes you could wear I would be all about the hand-me-downs.  I love getting and giving hand-me-downs because they are free and it’s a fun way to make something old new again.

Happy Mother’s Day!! 💕 Today I am truly embracing this day and remembering how much I always wanted to be a mom!

I recently came across a journal entry I wrote 10 years ago on Mother’s Day—right after my second miscarriage. I wrote that I was ready to be a mom, but I was so scared and worried about our future. I didn’t know when and if it would actually happen.

One month later, I was pregnant with my son.

And now here I am, ten years later—tired, busy, deeply grateful, and fully embracing this season I once wanted so so bad!

To every mom today—in the waiting, in the chaos, or missing the days that flew by—I see you. We are all in this together! 💕
