My family and I just got back from a week-long vacation in Suamico, Wisconsin. I did my best to document my outfits on this trip. Today, I am sharing some summer vacation outfits that would be perfect for your next lake vacation.

Every few years, my in-laws rent a house on the water and get all of their kids and families together for a full week. It’s always a great time. We eat, drink, swim, and explore the area. Our last trip was to South Haven, Michigan, and the time before that, we visited Oceanside, California. (Read about those trips HERE and HERE!)
I had never been to Wisconsin before this trip. Growing up in Michigan, I spent most of my summer vacations on the Great Lakes on our side of Lake Michigan. But my in-laws found an amazing house in Wisconsin, just outside Green Bay. Although it was a long drive for us, it was worth it!
What to Pack for a Lake Vacation
One thing that I love about this style of vacation is how laid-back it is. When I shared on Instagram that I was going on a lake vacation, I was surprised that people were more interested in seeing my outfits from my Wisconsin vacation than my cruise outfits. I just think there is less inspiration for northern lake vacation outfits.
I tried my best to document my outfits from the week. I will tell you that packing for this trip was a little tricky because I wasn’t sure what the weather was going to be like. The forecast called for rain, and temperatures were expected to be in the low 70s most of the week, but we got pretty lucky. We had one day of rain, but most of the week was sunny with temperatures in the mid-70s.
I ended up packing a variety of clothes, but I felt like I overpacked. I used my summer capsule wardrobe post as a packing guide for this trip, but I still packed quite a bit extra. It’s hard for me to pack lightly because I’m always afraid I won’t have enough options while I’m away.
Some of the key pieces I reached for throughout the trip were my linen shorts from Quince, my Amazon hoodie sweatshirt, my Amazon red athletic dress, and my Amazon bathing suit cover-up. I wore each of these pieces multiple times, and they made packing and getting dressed so much easier. They’re comfortable, versatile, and perfect for a casual summer lake vacation.
Here are the outfits I wore on my lake vacation.
Traveling + Chicago Outfits
We started our trip by driving to Chicago, where we met up with the family and stayed for the night. We got together with some of Kevin’s family who live in Chicago and then took an architecture boat tour on the Chicago River. Unfortunately, it rained pretty hard that evening, but we still had fun!
I wore my favorite new pants from my DEAR JOHN x KATIE HALLER capsule wardrobe collection. These pants are so soft and comfortable that they almost feel like sweatpants, making them perfect for the car ride and our evening in the city.
The next day, we continued our drive to northern Wisconsin. On the way, we stopped at Lakefront Brewery for lunch in Milwaukee. It was cooler that day, so I opted for jeans and a tank top. I packed all of my favorite thrifted jeans for this vacation. This pair is my Mother Rambler jeans, which are incredibly comfortable.

Pool Outfits
Once we got to the house, we spent a lot of time swimming in the pool. That was the kids’ favorite part of the vacation. I packed a ton of bathing suits and cover-ups, but I actually only ended up rotating between two bathing suits and one cover-up. I wore my red one-piece and my palm leaf one-piece, both from Walmart. For my cover-up, I wore this button-down cover-up from Amazon. I love how versatile it is with the buttons, and it was such an easy piece to throw on over my bathing suit.

Outfits I Wore
We spent most of the vacation around the house, so my outfits were pretty casual. One day, we went to see Toy Story 5 with the kids. We also visited a farmers market in downtown Green Bay, and one day we made it to a brewery. Other than that, we spent most of our time at the house visiting with family and relaxing.
These are the outfits I wore.

Overall, this was such a fun and relaxing family vacation, and I loved having the chance to unplug and spend quality time with everyone. My outfits ended up being much more casual than what I packed, which is a good reminder that you really don’t need a suitcase full of clothes for a lake vacation. Comfort is key! I hope these outfit ideas give you a little inspiration if you have a summer lake getaway coming up.
